Herbs that help prevent Cancer

Not every struggle is accompanied by an outburst of violence, and not every fight ends in carnage.

When facing a tenacious foe like cancer, our arsenal should include a healthy lifestyle that includes frequent health checkups and a diet that includes nutrients that act as anti-cancer agents.

When we went crying to our grandmother with a bruise on our knee or an elbow wound, she would make us a glass of warm milk with saffron sprinkled on top in no time. Minor cuts were calmed, and all skin rashes were treated, thanks to the herbal turmeric paste. These tried-and-true culinary hacks are little more than gimmicks. Spices like turmeric and saffron have therapeutic characteristics that when added to our diet from a young age, help to protect our bodies from toxins, bacteria, and viruses.

More such herbs are sources of antioxidants and other substances that have anti-cancer characteristics. These herbs help reduce cancer risk and can be very effective.

Some of the herbs are discussed below-

  1. Holy Basil-

Commonly known as Tulsi in India, the medicinal properties of this ancient herb are well known. It is used to boost immunity and combat stress.

It also contains anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-diabetic, and anti-stress qualities. Tulsi phytochemicals have been proven to protect against chemically produced lung, liver, oral, and skin cancers by enhancing antioxidant activity, changing gene expression, killing cancer cells, and preventing cancer from spreading to other cells. 

  1. Ginger-

Its active components have powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory capabilities, and some have been shown to prevent cancer. This modest spice has therapeutic properties that reduce cholesterol, increase metabolism, and kill cancer cells.

  1. Cumin-

Yes, it promotes digestion, which is perhaps why we enjoy chewing a handful of cumin seeds after each meal. Its health benefits, go beyond that. As an antioxidant plant, Cumin seeds contain a chemical called “Thymoquinone”, which inhibits the development of cells that cause prostate cancer.

  1. Turmeric/Curcumin-

This spice is the king o spices when it comes to fighting cancer and bringing a spicy color to our meals on the plate. Turmeric includes the strong polyphenol Curcumin, which has been clinically proven to slow the growth of cancer cells that cause prostate cancer, melanoma, breast cancer, brain tumors, pancreatic cancer, and leukemia, among many other diseases.

  1. Ashwagandha-

It’s also known as Indian ginseng, and it’s been utilized in Ayurveda to assist the body cope with stress. It has anti-cancer properties that help in slowing the growth of cancer cells.

 

While scientific study continues to delve deeper into the prevention and cure of cancer, you should take all necessary actions to protect yourself.
